Well-behaved principles alternative to bounded induction

چکیده
We introduce some Π1–expressible combinatorial principles which may be treated as axioms for some bounded arithmetic theories. The principles, denoted Sk(Σn, length log k) and Sk(Σn, depth log k) (where ‘Sk’ stands for ‘Skolem’), are related to the consistency of Σn–induction: for instance, they provide models for Σn–induction. However, the consistency is expressed indirectly, via the existence of evaluations for sequences of terms. The evaluations do not have to satisfy Σn–induction, but must determine the truth value of Σn statements. Our principles have the property that Sk(Σn, depth log k) proves Sk(Σn+1, length log k). Additionally, Sk(Σn, length log k−2) proves Sk(Σn+1, length log k). Thus, some provability is involved where conservativity is known in the case of Σn induction on an initial segment and induction for higher Σm classes on smaller segments. ∗Research supported in part by The State Committee for Scientific Research (Poland), KBN, grant number 5 PO3A 037 20.

Alternative approaches to obtain t-norms and t-conorms on bounded lattices
Triangular norms in the study of probabilistic metric spaces as a special kind of associative functions defined on the unit interval. These functions have found applications in many areas since then. In this study, we present new methods for constructing triangular norms and triangular conorms on an arbitrary bounded lattice under some constraints. Also, we give some illustrative examples for t...
متن کاملCompact probabilistic metrics on bounded closed intervals of distribution functions
A Menger space (a special type of probabilistic metric spaces) is said to be compact if its strong uniformity is compact. We construct, in a natural way, Menger T -metrics on the set of distribution functions, one for each copula T (a special type of continuous t-norms). We show that, on each bounded closed interval of distribution functions, the strong uniformities of all our spaces are induce...

Nowadays, the majority of economists believe that by taking advantages of the patterns of institutional development, economic progress can be brought to the country. In this case, however, it’s inexorably important to understand the principles of institutional economics. Hence, in this research we try to consider moral principles of institutional approach as well as the principles of philosophy...
متن کاملA Classification Theory of Semantics of Normal Logic Programs: II. Weak Properties
Our aim in this article is to supplement the set of strong properties introduced in the preceding article ([Dix94]) with a set of weak principles in order to characterize semantics of logic programs. In [Dix94] we introduced our point of view: we observed that all semantics induce in a natural way a sceptical non-monotonic entailment relation SEMscept. We ask for the properties of these sceptic...
متن کاملA Few Principles of Macro Design
Hygiene facilitates the implementation of reliable macros but does not guarantee it. In this note we review the introspective capabilities of macros, discuss the problems caused by abusing this power, and suggest a few principles for designing well-behaved macros.
